Core 2 Duo

Core 2 Duo

Core 2 is the brand covers a wide range of consumer 64-bit Intel Core microarchitecture x86-64 single, double and quad-core Intel processors. Model  dual-core on the chip, quad-core model consists of two, each with two cores, packaged multi-chip module. Eliminate  the introduction of the Pentium Core 2 brand in the mid-market, and portable desktop line of processors that have been already divided into brand Pentium 4, Pentium D and Pentium M.

Core microarchitecture returned to lower levels and  one clock cycle and better solutions available NetBurst microarchitecture 4/D-branded previous Pentium processor. Core microarchitecture provides several stages of the decoding unit  execution, caches and buses, reducing energy consumption two core brands, increase processing capacity. Intel processors have different usage  energy  setting the clock frequency, and  semiconductor architecture, table of power dissipation by the processor.
CPU does not have  Hyper-Threading on the Pentium 4 is a  Therefore, the Intel Core microarchitecture is a descendant of the P6 microarchitecture used in the Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III and Pentium M. Core 2 also has the L3 Cache memory is located on the Gallatin core Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, L3 cache, but it is the current version of the high- end based on the Xeon processor, Hyper-Threading Technology and the choice is Atom. L3 cache and Hyper-Threading Technology is present in Nehalem, Westmere present and future.
Core 2 brand was introduced July 27, 2006, consisting of the  (one heart), Duo (dual core), Quad (Quad Core), in 2007 year, model Extreme (two or four - the CPU enthusiastic). Intel Core 2 with vPro technology (designed for businesses), including dual-core and quad-core branches.
Duo, Quad, and Extreme
Type Intel Core 2

1st Conroe / Merom (65nm)
Original Core 2 processors, which can be identified by the CPUID Family 6 15th depending on model and configuration  Packaging  codenames Conroe (LGA 775, 4MB L2 cache), Allendale (LGA 775, 2 MB L2 cache), Merom (Socket M 4 MB L2 cache) and Kentsfield (multi-chip modules, LGA 775, 2x4MB L2 cache). Allendale processors Merom and a limited number of functions can be found in the Pentium and Celeron Dual Core, while Conroe, Allendale, and also sold as the Xeon Kentsfield. Name of additional code for the processor depending on the model are Woodcrest (LGA 771, 4MB L2 cache), Clovertown (MCM, LGA 771, 2x4MB L2 cache) and Tigerton (MCM, Socket 604, 2x4MB L2 cache), all of which are exclusively under the Xeon brand.

2nd Conroe-L / Merom-L
Processors Conroe-L and Merom-L based on core Conroe and Merom, even, but it does not contain  core and 1 MB L2 cache, significantly reducing costs of production and consumption  the energy cost of dual-core processor versions. Used only in the ultra low voltage Core 2 Duo and Celeron U2xxx identified as Family 6 Model 22 CPUID.

3rd Merom-L
Intel ticking in 2007/2008 cycle  Mark , a psychiatrist  45 nm Core microarchitecture as a model CPUID 23rd Core 2, codenamed Penryn used by (Socket P), Wolfdale (LGA 775) and Yorkfield (MCM, LGA 775), with some of which are also sold as Celeron, Pentium and Xeon. Xeon brand, Wolfdale-DP and Harpertown code name used for MCM LGA 771 bases with two or four-core Wolfdale active. IC is available in two sizes, 6 MB and 3 MB L2 cache. Smaller versions are called Wolfdale and Penryn-3M-6M-3M and Yorkfield, respectively. Single-core version of Penryn, L Penryn list as in this case, instead of separate models of Merom-L, but the Penryn-3M model, only one core active.

4th Dunnington
Xeon  Dunnington  processor (CPUID family 6, model 30) is closely associated with the Wolfdale, but in six cores and L3 cache per processor and is designed for servers with 604 socket, so n  is not sold as Core 2 speaks of completeness.

Success
Successor to Core 2 brand is a set of processors based  microarchitecture named Nehalem  i3, i5, i7 and i9. Core i7 officially launched November 17, 2008, in a family with three models of desktop quad-core processors, models began to appear in 2009.

With the introduction of 32 nm processors in the coming months, Intel plans to s  stop some of the Atom, Celeron, Pentium Core 2, Core i7, and even models. Core 2 Extreme QX9775, will be eliminated in the third quarter of 2009. Core 2 Quad Q8200, Q8200, Q9400 and Q9400 plan was abandoned in 2010. [9]. Intel is also a rebadge some Core 2 processors in E7xxx, E8xxx, Q8xxx, Q9xxx, Wolfdale Core i3 series, the new 45 nm Nehalem microarchitecture i3 for your help.

Price
Prices of different models of Core 2, while the processor is sold, is on the list of Intel Core 2 microprocessors. Please note that this price includes the cost of systems integrators, such as Apple, Dell and HP values for two processors. N  is not set MSRP Core 2 retail sales - prices in stores are usually very similar to the price, but depending on CPU load and supply inventories of suppliers and demand.
